  About Us About Us

The Charter School of Ft. Pierce is an innovative charter school authorized by the School District of St. Lucie County. The school’s Charter was granted in March 2006. The school is currently under contract for an initial six-year, renewable term.

Admission is open to all age-appropriate students from the Green Zone in St. Lucie County. Our students come from diverse socioeconomic groups and represent the demographics of our community. We are a tuition-free, publicly funded institution.

WHAT ARE CHARTER SCHOOLS?
Charter schools are public schools that have a contract with a school district. They serve a unique population or a specific community need, yet are held accountable for academic achievements and financial management by both the Local and State Districts.

WHAT IS THE CHARTER SCHOOL OF FT. PIERCE?
The Charter School of Ft. Pierce is a school that offers a unique program for students in grades 6 through 12 focusing on high academic achievement, with particular emphasis on English Language Learners (ELL) from the Caribbean and Latin America.

  WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE?
We address the growing community need posed by a large and increasing influx of new immigrants from the Caribbean and neighboring countries. In addition, we will serve the second generation immigrant community comprised of students born in the US but requiring the special attention of ESOL educational experts. The school was established to meet their need for a school specializing in the needs of ESOL and other at-risk students in St. Lucie County.

  WHAT IS THE EDUCATIONAL FOCUS?
The purpose of the school is to provide an innovative, standards-based educational choice focusing on high student achievement for all, citizenship skills, and personal as well as social responsibility. By implementing a traditional curriculum with ESOL instruction, we strive to provide a way out of the cycles of poverty that can trap immigrant and other populations and provide an avenue toward success through educational excellence. It is our belief that over time future generations will be affected in such a way that we can help students, families and communities become successful through our focus.

  ADMISSION INFORMATION
Admission is open to all age-appropriate students entering grades 6-12 (approximate ages 11-18) within the Green Zone of the District. We particularly want the school to respect the diversity of the community. Thus, while we will serve a population made up predominantly of Caribbean and Latin American immigrants whose families have recently settled in St. Lucie County, students will be recruited from ALL ethnicities, nationalities, race, ability level, and genders.
